This teaching will focus on what practices were restored under Nehemiah and how they relate to the church today. There was a general ignorance of the covenant, no honoring of the Sabbath, neglect of the temple, and a general apostasy and idolatry in the land. Nehemiah took this challenge head on and was successful.

We will also look at the symbolic meaning of the gates that surrounded Jerusalem and how each gate represents a work and ministry of the church. How the gates were restored and hung, so ministries of the church need to be restored and put in place. Ministries like evangelism, worship, giving, discipleship, and prayer. Lastly, we will note the intense resistance Nehemiah faced from Sanballat, a local leader that did not want Jerusalem to be reestablished in the land. There is a great deal we can learn from this chapter in the life of ancient Israel.
